ANCHOR Services

Haematology and Oncology

The ANCHOR Centre provides out patient and day patient consultation and treatment services for patients with a cancer diagnosis and for patients with blood and bone marrow disorders.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is one form of treatment for cancer that can be given in several ways and is tailored to suit each patient. Radiotherapy is accessed from the main entrance of The ANCHOR Centre. (Please see floor plan on page 12)

Pharmacy Aseptic Unit

The Pharmacy Aseptic Unit provides a sterile environment where chemotherapy and medicines such as intravenous nutrition and antibiotics are made. Cutting edge medicines for clinical trials are also made here.

These treatments are used in the centre as well as being distributed across the North East and Islands.

The Dispensing Pharmacy

The Dispensing Pharmacy enables patients to collect medication prescribed within the centre.

The ANCHOR Pharmacy services are co-located adjacent to clinical facilities to enable a smooth and timely pathway for patients.

Teenagers and Young Adults Lounge

A dedicated space for teenagers and young adults (between 16-25 years) who are attending the centre is available on the ground floor. This space has been designed and furnished in collaboration with the Teenage Cancer Trust and its members.

Information Hub

There is an Information Hub within the entrance of the centre which is open five days a week.

This is staffed by the Friends of ANCHOR’s support and information advisor. This is the place you can go to for knowledgeable, reliable support and advice from someone familiar with ANCHOR and the treatment process.

Information on the significant range of charity and community-led support for patients and their loved ones is also available here.

Complementary Therapy Suite

The ANCHOR Centre has its very own complementary therapy suite – a first for NHS Grampian. This private space, less than a minute’s walk from the clinical treatment area, has a spa-like feel to it and is run by Friends of ANCHOR. It is open Monday to Friday.

Free complementary therapies include:

  • A range of oncology specific massage, including cording, scar tissue and lymphatic drainage
  • Hair loss and wig service
  • Complementary therapies will continue to be delivered, chairside during treatment

Bookings for all the Friends of ANCHOR therapies and services can be made by emailing: wellbeing@friendsofanchor.org

With The ANCHOR Centre providing out patient care only, inpatient haematology and oncology patients will continue to receive these complementary therapies in the existing locations within ARI.
