GP Walk-In Centres
On-the-Day Care for Minor Health Problems
Our new GP Walk-In Centres are for people who feel they need to see a doctor or nurse today for a new health problem that is not life-threatening or an emergency.
They offer on-the-day care, for minor illnesses and health concerns that would normally need a GP appointment.
Before visiting a centre
We want to avoid patients making an unnecessary journey or being turne away on arrival.
Please ensure this service is right for your needs before attending.
What we CAN usually help with:
- New minor illnesses or infections.
- Your problem has started recently.
- Mild to moderate symptoms needing prompt attention.
- Health problems that can usually be treated in one visit.
- Minor concerns that do not require hospital tests, scans or specialist care.
What we CAN'T help with:
- Chest pain, breathing difficulties or signs of stroke.
- Serious injuries or emergencies.
- Broken bones, burns or severe wounds.
- Repeat prescriptions or medication reviews.
- Sick notes, forms or paperwork.
- Long-term or ongoing health conditions.
- Dressings or wound checks.
- Dental conditions.
- Drug dependancy prescribing.
If this applies to you, staff will help direct you to the right service.
When you arrive...
Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis and waiting times may vary depending on demand. If there's a clinical emergency, a patient who attended after you, may be taken through ahead of you.
As this is a walk-in service, you will need to wait and during busy periods the wait time will increase.
If your condition would be better managed by another NHS service, staff will help guide you to the most appropriate place for care.
Feeling worse?
If your condition is serious, getting worse or you need emergency care, please tell a member of staff immediately or call 999.
