Payroll Giving Scheme

Around two thirds of us give to charity each month though a variety of means but did you know that donating through NHS Grampian’s Payroll Giving scheme is the most cost effective way for charities to receive your donations?

Payroll Giving is a simple tax-effective way to give to your favourite charity, good cause or places of worship direct from your pay.

Your donations are made from before-tax pay; every £5 you pledge will cost you just £4 (or £3 if you pay higher rate tax). Payroll Giving gives more to the charity and less to the tax-man!

Unlike Gift Aid, which can take charities up to 12 months to claim and is only paid at the lower tax-rate, Payroll Giving gives charities immediate tax-relief and at the highest rate paid by the employee. For example, if you pay £10 per month your cause will receive £12. If you pay the higher-rate tax the £10 will equal a £16.70 donation.

There is a minimum donation amount of £5 a month (or £1 a week), but there ’is no maximum limit. You can choose to support as many different causes as you wish with one deduction – just specify how much and to whom you would like your donations to go to on the donation form. The scheme is completely voluntary and confidential.

Support by NHS Grampian staff to helping charities directly through their pay led to us being awarded a Payroll Giving Quality Mark (PGQM) in 2017 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) using the CAF Give As You Earn approach For information on CAF see www.cafonline.org.

We are delighted to offer Payroll Giving to all staff and hope you will take time to find out how this can benefit you and the causes you care about.
