NHS Grampian and Highland Maternity Collaborative lead highlights flexible working opportunities for specialist roles
Published: 28/11/2023 09:11The new programme director for the joint NHS Grampian and NHS Highland Maternity Collaborative, Jane Gill, has put out a call for specialists to get in touch with her about opportunities to work flexibly as part of the ongoing delivery of the Moray Maternity Service Plan.
Being able to offer consultant-led births as part of a sustainable new service at Dr Gray’s Hospital by the end of 2026 as well as strengthening the team at Raigmore Hospital means the ongoing recruitment of almost 100 additional staff. Around a quarter of them will have to be medics in a range of highly specialist roles.
Jane explained: “We’re on the cusp of a far-reaching lifestyle recruitment campaign and would like to attract medical colleagues to work as part of our Maternity Collaborative in Elgin and Inverness. Right now, I’m asking for qualified obstetricians, anaesthetists and paediatricians to get in touch and chat with me about what might attract you to our dynamic network.
“Are you looking for a part-time position? Would you be keen to work in the UK for only part of the year? Are there particular professional development opportunities you might be interested in across a network of hospitals? Is there a piece of research you feel could be supported across our rural and urban areas?
“I’m keen to remind prospective candidates it’s not just a job we’re offering but an opportunity to be part of a really special community in a beautiful part of Scotland. It’s not just work but all the things you can do alongside work here too.
“I enjoy hillwalking, sea kayaking, river kayaking, skiing and camping here. I don’t think there’s a better way. There may be bigger mountains in different countries but they don’t offer the same complexity and variety of the Cairngorms. It’s so easy to be in the middle of nowhere here in Moray and across the Highlands, yet we still have a strong theatre culture, independent bars, cafes, art shops, local cinemas, great schools and expanding nightlife.
"With international airports in both Aberdeen and Inverness, you can be down to London and back in a day. Or if a more scenic adventure is what you’re looking for then Inverness is actually part of the North Coast 500 route! And that’s before you’ll find you’re too busy with the landscapes which are second-to-none and on your doorstep pretty much anywhere on our patch.”
Jane is originally from St Helens in the North West of England. She travelled the world with her husband who served in the military for 25 years and through her own work as a chartered accountant working in the healthcare products industry for multinational blue-chip companies. They settled in Lossiemouth in 1994.
She added: “I came here almost 30 years ago and have never left. My professional career and my husband’s work in the military took us around the world experiencing lots of different cultures and lots of different people. Now, we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else – it's so easy to escape from the day-to-day. I could go on forever.
