Alcohol Advice

Alcohol can increase your perioperative risk in a number of ways- it can affect your immunity and wound healing which increases the risk of infection post operatively. It can also affect your liver’s ability to handle medicines, which can lead to increasing side effects. All of which can lead to a longer stay in hospital and a longer recovery.

Reducing your alcohol intake can reduce the chance of complications, however if you drink excessively, it is unsafe to suddenly stop- in this case you should seek help from a healthcare professional.
