Knowledge Skills Framework (KSF)

This space can be used for your learning and development, to use within your community setting, or to learn more for interest on the topic of public mental health. The page is divided into four sections to align with the Knowledge Skills Framework (KSF). The framework identifies the knowledge and skills required across the four levels of practice: 

  • Informed 

  • Skilled 

  • Enhanced 

  • Specialist 

     

These are based on the nature and frequency of contact staff have with people who may be at risk of, or affected by mental ill health, self-harm or suicide. If you are here for your CPD, not all levels have to be progressed through or completed. It is recommended that you use the framework to decide on the level that best matches your development needs and your role.

Informed

The informed level of practice is the most broadly applicable and the associated learning resources are relevant to everyone.

Skilled

The 'Skilled Level' describes the knowledge and skills required by ‘non-specialist’ front line staff working in health, social care, wider public and other services.

Enhanced

This is practice level 3 for staff who have regular contact with those who experience mental distress, mental ill health and may be at risk of self-harm or suicide and roles who provide direct interventions.

Specialist

This is practice level 4 and is for people who present specialist knowledge to inform practises or policies in mental health improvement, self-harm and/or suicide prevention.
