Using the Knowledge Network

Aim

This session will introduce you to The Knowledge Network web-site and show you how to find information to support clinical or managerial practice.  There will be plenty of opportunity to practise searches during the session.

Audience

This session is open to all staff, particularly if you are new to finding information in electronic form.

Prerequisites

Participants should be familiar with basic computer and Internet operations.

2.5 hours

Objectives

After completing this session you will be able to:

  • Register for a Knowledge Network Athens password, and subsequently log-in
  • Navigate the various sections of The Knowledge Network and understand what information can be found in each section
  • Use The Knowledge Network's search tools appropriately
  • Use The Knowledge Network's tools to limit the number of records retrieved
  • Access the full text of electronic articles
  • Use The Knowledge Network's tools to print, save or store the results of searches
  • Understand where The Knowledge Network fits in to the overall provision of  library and information services to NHS Grampian
