What community engagement means to me and why it is so important - ‘A CLD Perspective’

Grampian Engagement Network (GEN) - Thursday 22nd May

The GEN were thrilled to welcome Kevin McDermott, Community Learning and Development (CLD) Manager for Moray Council to be our guest speaker for our May 2025 session.

The GEN recognises that there will be few people working in Community Engagement in Grampian that can talk so knowledgeably and with such wisdom about the topic as Kevin.

Based upon his rich and diverse experience in the sector, Kevin brings to life the important role CLD plays in helping communities be more empowered, reflecting on some of his own community engagement experience, and why this work is so important. Participants had the opportunity to hear from Kevin about:

  • Dialogue and deliberation
  • Mini publics
  • Social auditing
  • The Moray CLD Plan
  • We will also be spending time looking at how the GEN started and how we'd like a future GEN to look

You can click the link at the below video to watch a recording of the session, and also find a copy of Kevin’s presentation slides here.

In addition we facilitated a look back at how the GEN started and what we want the Network to look like as part of a GEN refresh discussion, and you can see what people thoughts were about the future of the GEN here.

If you have any thoughts, ideas or know about a fantastic piece of engagement work that needs to be showcased, you can arrange an informal chat by dropping us a message at gram.gen@nhs.scot
