Proposed application for a New Pharmacy at Countesswells, Aberdeen

NHS Grampian has been consulting with John Fowlie, Director, JMF Healthcare Ltd, who has applied to open a new pharmacy at Countesswells, Aberdeen, Unit 3, 30 Wisely Place, Countesswells, AB15 8NF.

Proposed name: Countesswells Pharmacy.

When a new pharmacy application is made, the local Health Board must assess if the residents where the new pharmacy is proposed to open, feel a new pharmacy is necessary or desirable.

JMF Healthcare has defined the community area they would serve as being the new housing development at Countesswells within the boundaries of: the A944 to the north, Blacktop Road to the south, Countesswells Woods to the west and Hazlehead Woods to the east.

JMF Healthcare plans to provide the following services should the application be granted:

NHS Services

  • Dispensing of NHS and private prescriptions
  • Pharmacy First
  • Pharmacy First Plus (Common Clinical Conditions) with a prescribing pharmacist
  • Medicines: Care and Review
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Gluten Free Foods
  • Stoma Service
  • Sexual Health Services (including emergency hormonal contraception)
  • Public Health Promotion
  • Palliative Care Network (by invitation from NHS Grampian)
  • Substance Use Service Addiction Support
  • Compliance Aid Provision
  • MAR chart provision
  • Medicinal waste collection service

Private Services

  • Weight Management
  • Ear Wax Removal
  • Travel Health
  • Period Delay
  • Vitamin B12 Injections
  • Flu vaccination
  • Menopause support

JMF Healthcare plans to provide these services at the following times:

Monday to Friday: 9 am – 6 pm

Saturday: 9 am – 1 pm

Sunday: closed

To assess the need for a new pharmacy in Countesswells, NHS Grampian and JMF Healthcare are required to undertake a joint public consultation to:

  1. Assess the current provision of pharmacy services in the proposed area and whether it is adequate.

  2. Establish the level of support from residents in the proposed area for the application

People who may be affected and wish to be involved are invited to provide their views in respect of:

  1. The pharmacy services being offered by the proposed applicant.

  2. Any gaps in existing pharmacy service provision.

  3. If the pharmacy services being offered by the proposed applicant would work alongside and fit in with other NHS services already provided in that area.

  4. If the pharmacy services being offered by the proposed applicant would negatively or positively impact on other NHS services in the area.

  5. The community area being proposed by the new pharmacy.

  6. The location and proposed opening hours of the new pharmacy.

The consultation report and findings will be made available to interested parties.
