New Director of Public Health appointed

NHS Grampian is pleased to announce Professor Shantini Paranjothy has been appointed as Director of Public Health.  Professor Paranjothy began her career in 1995 as a junior doctor in gynaecology, obstetrics, and sexual health. Following completion of her public health training, she worked for Public Health Wales and was a Professor of Preventative Medicine at Cardiff University. She joined NHS Grampian in 2020, acting as lead public health consultant for the Test & Protect programme during the pandemic. She is also a Professor of Public Health at the University of Aberdeen. Professor Paranjothy was appointed Deputy Director of Public Health for NHS Grampian in 2023. 

Reacting to the appointment, Alison Evison, chair of NHS Grampian, said: “Shantini has been an asset to the public health team since she joined in 2020. I am delighted she will now be leading this service. Her expertise in health inequalities will be vital as we work together to ensure people in the north-east are able to lead happier and healthier lives.” 

Shantini added: “It’s a privilege to lead the dedicated team of professionals who make up the public health service in Grampian. I look forward to continuing our important work in improving health outcomes for everyone in the region.”
