Mobile MRI unit to be based at Dr Gray’s Hospital
Published: 03/11/2025 10:38Patients across Grampian who are waiting for MRI scans will soon be seen at a new mobile MRI unit located at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
The unit, funded by the Scottish Government, will be on site from 1 December 2025 until the end of March 2026, providing additional capacity for eligible patients across Grampian.
Radiology Service Manager, Claire Vernon, said: “We’re delighted to bring MRI scanning closer to home for many of our patients in Moray and the surrounding areas. The mobile unit at Dr Gray’s will make a real difference by reducing waiting times and helping us continue to tackle waiting lists across the region."
Claire added: “People waiting for a MRI scan do not need to take any action; we will be in touch with them to offer an appointment in Elgin where they meet the criteria for this. Whilst many patients will benefit from this, some will still need to travel to Aberdeen for their scan.”
The first appointments are expected to take place at Dr Gray’s in December. People who require more complex scans or have specific mobility needs will still need to be seen in Aberdeen.
Alasdair Pattinson, General Manager at Dr Gray’s Hospital, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome the mobile MRI unit here to Dr Gray’s. It means people in Moray and nearby areas will find it easier to access important diagnostic services close to home. Whilst only a temporary arrangement this will improve patient experiences, as well as help to reduce waiting times.”
