Two midwives originally from Keith and Burghead have made the move from Aberdeen to Elgin to join the team that is creating a new, enhanced, sustainable maternity service for Moray.

Leah Mckenzie (24) and Jenna Lyall (25) each bring with them three years of experience of both community and hospital midwifery from their work in Aberdeen. Leah, who grew up in Keith, says she has been heavily inspired by her mum who is a nurse.

Leah said: “I have always loved caring for others, and I decided to join the team in Ward 3 so I would be closer to family. Since making the move, the team have been so supportive. They are all lovely and have made me feel a part of the team, just as though I have been there for years!

“I am enjoying getting to know everyone and being able to provide holistic care to all the families that use our service.”

Jenna, who is originally from Burghead is now living in Hopeman. She commented: “I love that no day is ever the same in midwifery. We get to support and build relationships with families during such a special time in their lives. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey to parenthood.

“I was keen to move back home and join the Moray team. I spent a lot of time in Ward 3 during my training and always really enjoyed it. I’m delighted to be working as part of the team now. Everyone is very supportive and has made me feel at home. It’s also great to be so close to family again, I couldn’t imagine living or working anywhere else now!”
