Supporting an inclusive NHS Grampian

How staff networks can support decission making

Our three equalities focused staff networks bring together colleagues with different backgrounds, identities and experiences to help make NHS Grampian an inclusive, fair and welcoming place to work.  For those in decission making roles, they can offer a space to try out ideas, identify blind spots, and make sure any changes we make will work for everyone.

Having diverse voices around the table sparks innovation and new thinking.  When we look at an issue from more than one angle, we get more creative solutions and better outcomes.  Simply put, working in a joined up way with the equalities focused staff networks is the right thing to do.

Every colleague deserves to feel heard, respected and able to thrive at work.

How the networks can help those in decision making roles:

  • Diverse ‘sounding board’: an accessible and safe space to test ideas with colleagues from different backgrounds to help catch blind spots early.
  • Co‑design with lived experience: Explore changes or build policies with the networks from the start, so changes work for everyone, not only a majority group.
  • In‑house ‘think tank’: turn frontline perspectives into practical options, boosting creativity and innovation through varied perspectives working together
  • Credibility and trust: decisions shaped with the networks are easier to adopt and progress because people can see they’re grounded in real experiences.
  • Bias and impact check: a simple way to sense‑check for unintended bias, reduce challenges, and unequal outcomes.
