Welcome to Diwali 2025
Namaste, NHS Grampian!
As we approach the Hindu festival of Diwali, we warmly invite colleagues to join us for a Diwali Lunch Celebration, an opportunity to come together, share in the spirit of the festival, and reflect on its significance for members of our Hindu and wider community.
Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It is a time for renewal, reflection, and gratitude, values that align closely with our shared commitment to compassion, inclusivity, and wellbeing across our NHS community.
For many, Diwali also represents a spiritual journey of cleansing the mind and heart, fostering inner peace and positivity. As part of Hindu tradition, meditation and yoga are integral practices that promote balance, mindfulness, and connection between mind, body, and spirit. These practices also hold great relevance in our workplace, supporting staff wellbeing, resilience, and focus, which in turn contribute to safe, effective, and compassionate patient care.
This year, we are delighted to be collaborating with the Aberdeen Hindu Association and the Aberdeen Hindu Temple Trust, who will be joining us for the celebration on 6th November 2025, Lunch time. Together, we will explore how the values and practices associated with Diwali can enrich our understanding of wellbeing and help foster a supportive and connected workplace culture.
Since, Diwali is a time of togetherness and community, an opportunity to celebrate diversity, unity, and hope. We would also love to hear from staff across our organisation. Please share your memories, reflections, nostalgia and stories of Diwali with us. Whether it’s your favourite tradition, how you celebrate with loved ones, or what Diwali means to you, we will be collating your contributions to share as part of our feature. You can send us your contributions to gram.staffequalities@nhs.scot
We look forward to welcoming you to our lunchtime celebration and to sharing in this uplifting festival.
Wishing all our colleagues and their families a bright, healthy, and joyous Diwali
