Hospital Play Specialists
Play Preparation Programmes
Play Specialists use play as a medium. Play preparation programmes are devised to explain treatments and procedures to families. Play Specialists may visit families prior to surgery and procedures. Preparation can help families cope with procedures and empower the patient. Play preparation may also help children express any fears or concerns they may have.
The Play Specialist Clinic
The Play Service clinic is for referred patients. Families have access to play preparation programmes, post procedural play and support. Families may also receive visits at home.
The MRI Out Patient Preparation Clinic
A play preparation programme for children attending for MRI scan. Patients may be referred to the Play Specialist and given an appointment prior to their scan. The Play Specialist explains the scan to the family and prepares the child for what will happen.
