Hepatitis C Disease Progression
If left untreated chronic Hepatitis C infection can lead to significant risk of progression to cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) and liver cancer. Several factors can increase the speed of this progression:
- Older age
- Male gender
- Overweight and obesity
- Smoking
- Alcohol
- Co-infection
If you are infected with Hepatitis C please consider weight management, stopping smoking and avoiding alcohol, unprotected sex and sharing of injecting equipment.
