Implementing the Grampian Health Plan

During the consultation of the Grampian Health Plan in late 2009, a specific request was made by staff, the public and partners for greater detail on how the Grampian Health Plan for 2010 - 13 would be implemented.  In order to respond to this request, the Grampian NHS Board agreed to develop a Health and Care Framework.  The purpose of the Health and Care Framework is to provide greater detail and direction, based on the strategy set out in the Grampian Health Plan.

The Health and Care Framework will have three main parts which will:
  • Describe how health and care in the future will be safe, effective and sustainable, meets future population needs and is delivered within available resources - the Health and Care Model.
  • Set out detailed plans to deliver the agreed model.
  • Guide services and the organisation in allocating resources and making decisions based on the model of care.

Health Plan in the 'Mither Tongue'

NHS Grampian non-executive director, Raymond Bisset has taken a fresh approach to spreading the message of the latest Health Plan to the people of Grampian.

"The purpose of the Grampian Health Plan is to communicate how we will continue to improve health and heath services in Grampian over the next three years.  For a while I have been thinking about different ways of drawing the Plan to the attention of a wider audience."

"There are people out there who may not read a booklet but will perhaps read verse, and although it is not of Shakespearean or Burns quality, it's a bit of a light-hearted way to deliver our messages in our north east local dialect."

NHS Grampian Healthfit 2020

The NHS Grampian Board approved the Health and Care Framework at its meeting in October 2011.

This Framework includes a visionary document entitled - NHS Grampian Healthfit 2020.

This is the practical vision for the health system in Grampian taking account of the direction set out in the Health Plan. It sets out specifically how many elements of the health system could and should be organised up to 2020 if current good practice was to be applied consistently and comprehensively. The 2020 vision will not remain static but will continue to be developed to aid understanding on what is possible in Grampian as a whole and within individual communities.

If you would like to read this document, it is available at this link (doc).  Information about the Health and Care Framework is available at this link.
