The Aberdeen Molecular genetics diagnostic laboratory is part of the Scottish Genetics Consortium (SGC). The SGC is funded by the National Service Division (NSD) to provide Molecular and Cytogenetic diagnostic testing for Scotland.

The consortium operates by concentrating particular specialist services and expertise in the regional laboratories. Specialist Molecular Diagnostic services based in Aberdeen include Cardiac Arrhythmias, Hyperlipidaemia, Breast Cancer and Peripheral Neuropathies. The Aberdeen Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory can also provide testing on samples from outside Scotland with prior agreement of the head of laboratory. These services will be charged at the appropriate rate for the particular test.

The Molecular Genetics Laboratory combines modern genetic testing with comprehensive interpretation of tests results by recognised experts to provide accurate and timely molecular tests for a range of genetic disorders.

The laboratory is open:    Monday to Friday
                                       09:00-17:00

There is no weekend, bank holiday or on-call service for out of hours work
