The mission of the North of Scotland Genetic Service is to promote health and well-being in patients and families affected by inherited illnesses through provision of an equitable and high quality clinical and laboratory genetics service for the people of the North of Scotland.
Our service includes:
-
Genetic evaluation, genetic counselling and case management by clinical geneticists (doctors who specialise in inherited disease), genetic counsellors and specialist nurses through outpatient clinics held in Aberdeen, Inverness, Orkney and Shetland. Specialist multidisciplinary clinics are also held jointly with other medical specialties, and we participate in a number of managed clinical networks.
-
Genetic testing by CPA accredited Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratories: -
- Clinical teaching for physicians, nurses, genetic counsellors and students.
- In addition to providing high quality laboratory and clinical services, we aim to enhance genetics education within the NHS and have a significant portfolio of translational laboratory and clinical genetics research integrated within the department.
