Travelling Abroad

Travelling abroad is exciting and can often be a great adventure.  However, it is very important to ensure you maintain good health in order to get the most from your trip.  Prevention is much better than cure and there are steps you can take to ensure good health.

Before you Travel

Download our Travel Risk Assessment Form (click link below) or contact reception for a copy.  This form should be completed and returned to reception as soon as possible - ideally at least 8 weeks prior to departure as you may need a course of injections.  Alternatively the completed form can be emailed to ellon.administrator@nhs.net A practice nurse will contact you, 6 - 8 weeks prior to your departure date, to arrange a suitable appointment for you to come in for any necessary injections. Please ensure that you give us a convenient daytime contact telephone number.

The vaccinations you may require will depend, not only on the country you are visiting, but also the type of trip, length of stay and previous vaccination history.  Some vaccinations are available on the NHS, others are only issued on a private prescription where you must pay for the prescription and then pay the chemist for the cost of the vaccine.  Chemists' prices vary for private vaccines and it is recommended that you shop around.  We charge a £10 administration fee for travel advice/treatment.
