Volunteering for Spiritual Care

Hospital chaplains at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Woodend Hospital and Royal Cornhill Hospital work with a large group of volunteers who assist in many different ways. Chaplaincy Volunteer Visitors are trained by the chaplains and visit patients in the wards. Sunday Service escorts bring patients to and from Sunday Services.

Recruiting Chaplaincy Volunteer Visitors

Volunteer visitors need to take part in a six week training course. The last course was in March/April 2017.  There are no plans to run another course in the forseeable future. We are always recruiting Sundays Service escorts.  If you would like to get more information, please contact:

Sunday Escorts for Woodend & Royal Cornhill Hospitals

We are always recruiting Chaplaincy Sunday Escorts to help with the services at Woodend and Royal Cornhill Hospitals.

Escorts collect patients from the wards and bring them to the area where the services take place (usually in wheelchairs), sit with them during the half hour service, then take them back to the wards.

We have a rota system so that each escort is committed to only one Sunday a month. The service at Woodend starts at 10.30 and is held in the Day Room of Stroke Rehabilitation (West). Escorts are asked to attend by 10am and are usually finished by 11.15am. The service at Royal Cornhill Hospital starts at 11am and is held in the waiting area of Block A. Escorts are asked to arrive between 10.15am and 10.30am and are usually finished by 11.45am.

If you would like to find out more about what is involved or would like an application form please contact the Chaplains Office on 553316 or email us at nhsg.chaplaincy@nhs.net
