Equality and Diversity

Equality and Diversity

NHS Grampian values and celebrates the diversity of the population of Grampian and the North East of Scotland, who we serve. We want to reach out to every individual to identify their health care needs and to address them. Involving and consulting people is at the heart of everything we do.
We will ensure that health care is provided for everyone to the same high standard, regardless of a patient's race, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation or religion/faith.
NHS Grampian values and celebrates the diversity of its own staff and will ensure that all staff and prospective staff are treated fairly and given equal opportunities in recruitment, training, promotion and career development.
In terms of service provision, our emphasis must continue to be on practical, lasting, measurable and sustainable improvements, that will directly benefit all members of the communities we serve.
The Scottish Government Policy 'Fair For All' defines the six strands of diversity as: race, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation and religion/faith.This website uses these same headings. There are also two additional sections covering Equality and Diversity Impact Assessment and Training, which are common to all six strands.

The New NHS Grampian Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Policy

The Scottish Government wish all parts of the NHS in Scotland to maintain good employment practices in relation to equality, diversity and human rights and be exemplars for others to follow.
Following extensive consultation with Health Boards, the Scottish Government issued a template for a new Policy through the Partnership Information Network (PIN). This template was designed to help each Health Board develop their own new Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Policy, but harmonised with existing local policies and other arrangements.
The NHS Grampian Area Partnership Forum developed a new Policy, and after extensive consultation, this has now been approved and Link opens in new windowis available at this link.
Feedback on the Policy will be warmly welcomed by Nigel Firth, Equality and Diversity Manager at the contact details below.
