Moray Vision Awareness Event − June 26
NHS Grampian is holding a special event on Saturday, June 26, at Elgin Town Hall, 11am to 3pm, to raise awareness of eye health in Moray for young and old.
"The Moray eye care group decided to hold this event because it is an opportunity to raise awareness and provide information for children and adults on how to look after their sight and also to help people in the community who are visually impaired. There are many sources of help, but not everyone is aware of where to access information," says Carolyn Lamb, Eye Care Project Manager for NHS Grampian.
"Vision is something we all take for granted, yet not everyone visits their local optician's regularly to have the health of their eyes checked. Regular eye examinations are part of maintaining your eye health, and are free for everyone in Scotland."
The event brings together local eye professionals and representatives from NHS, education, and local and national voluntary services. This event aims to provide a source of advice and information about eye care and will display innovations to help the visually impaired. Visitors can hear first hand from experts about eye conditions such as Age Related Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and the Emergency Eye Care Services in the community. They may also have a taste of salsa dancing.
"This is a varied and lively event and we warmly welcome everyone," says Carolyn.
The event is free and there will be refreshments, a raffle, and taster sessions of Indian head massage/Reiki/Reflexology. Places may be available on the day for some of the workshops/demonstrations:
- IT hardware and software workshop
- The latest in low vision technology workshop
- Consultant Ophthalmologist Michael Bearn of Dr Gray's Hospital
- Understanding visual impairment in children − Grampian Society for the Blind
- Visual awareness training for staff/public − Grampian Eye Care Project
- Salsa workshop
