Statement from Grampian SCG

The Grampian Strategic Coordinating Group (SCG), comprising senior officers of the main public sector agencies in the north-east of Scotland met yesterday as part of its ongoing work to review preparedness for a flu pandemic.  This group has been meeting on a regular basis in recent weeks.  Yesterday's discussion included the implications of the World Health Organisation's decision to move to pandemic Phase 6.

The SCG agreed that the move to Phase 6 would not trigger any material change in response at a local level at this time, given the level of planning and hard work that has been undertaken across all agencies.

Chief Executive of NHS Grampian, Richard Carey, who is chairing the Grampian SCG as the health lead to the response, said,

"I would like to reassure the people of Grampian that we are as prepared as we can be to deal with the implications of an impending pandemic.  I would also like to pay tribute to the hard work of staff across all the agencies in recent weeks.  I know that the planning and coordination we have undertaken will be valuable in the days and weeks ahead.  We will continue to work very closely with the Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland and to monitor the local and national situation on a daily basis."
