Dementia is a syndrome that is associated with an ongoing decline of the brain and its abilities. As the older generations live longer, the numbers of people with dementia are expected to double over the next 30 years. This means it is vitally important for people to understand what dementia is and how to recognise it, so that those with the condition can be diagnosed early and start learning to live with it. There are practical tips to help you live with dementia, which include:

·         Keep a diary and write down things you want to remember

·         Put your keys in an obvious place such as a large bowl in the hall

·         Have a daily newspaper delivered to remind you of the date and day

·         Programme people?s names and numbers into your phone

·         Install safety devices, such as gas detectors and smoke alarms

If you want to find out more information or advice on dementia, visit your local healthpoint.
