The Vision Support Teacher
Vision support teachers are qualified teachers with additional training in supporting children with a visual impairment.
They will support you whatever the age of your child from birth to school leaving age.
Your Ophthalmologist or Paediatrician may make a referral to the Vision Support Service or you can
contact your local service directly.
When your child is very young, Vision Support Teachers will visit you at home and offer advice about:
- early stimulation
- suitable play material
- facilities that are available locally.
They may continue to be involved as your child starts playgroup and then progresses through school, offering advice and support and specialist teaching where necessary.
