IMPACT - Notes for Contributors
Articles for IMPACT should be written in an easy reading style providing a synopsis of the relevant information and if appropriate a reference to the full text. The articles should provide generalist information and not expand into detailed specialist guidance.
Target audience: GPs, hospital medical staff including consultants, pharmacists (both primary care and acute) and non-medical prescribers.
Articles for IMPACT fall into 3 categories:
Main feature article:
Word count - usually less than 600 words
Topic - major trial published with widespread implications, subject review, drug safety topics adverse drug effect e.g., withdrawal of drugs, review of prescribing patterns for group of drugs e.g., antimicrobials.
Short article:
Word count - less than 250 words
Topic - Drug alerts, product withdrawal and advice, new products, significant price changes, new guidelines, new services.
Notes:
Word count - less than 100 words
Topic - reminders of previous topics (index of previous articles), links to websites, one-off problems, supply issues.
Dates for submission
IMPACT is submitted to the Grampian Medicines Management Group for final ratification before issue. It must therefore be ready in draft form for agenda setting in order that it can go out with the papers for the meeting.

Articles should ideally be submitted in advance of these dates in order to allow compilation into the newsletter format.
