Tiotropium 2.5 microgram solution for inhalation (Spiriva Respimat®)
Antimuscarinic bronchodilators BNF 3.1.2
Tiotropium is already included in the GJF; the respimat inhaler (Spiriva Respimat®) was approved for restricted use as maintenance bronchodilator treatment to relieve symptoms of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It may be used for patients in whom tiotropium is an appropriate choice of maintenance bronchodilator treatment but it is restricted to patients who have poor manual dexterity and therefore have difficulty using the Handihaler® device. Available for general use [restricted to patients who have poor manual dexterity and have difficulty using the Handihaler® device] and treatment may be initiated in either hospital or community.
