13.12 Antiperspirants


Choice:  ALUMINIUM CHLORIDE
 

Aluminium chloride 20% (application) is indicated for severe hyperhidrosis, specifically involving the axillae, hands or feet.  It is applied at night to dry skin and washed off the following morning. Initially use is on a daily basis but the frequency can be reduced as the condition improves.  Patients should avoid contact between treated areas and clothing, jewellery or metal.

SPECIAL INDICATIONS

Botulinum toxin type A may be prescribed and administered by specialists for severe hyperhidrosis of the axillae.

Glycopyrrolate cream/ointment 0.5%, 1%, 2% [unlicensed product] may be prescribed for severe hyperhidrosis including axillary, palmoplantar, gustatory, facial and idiopathic. Use is restricted to prescribing and supply by consultant dermatologists only.
